Why an electric car good for the environment? We never look at the impacts of production or on the grid.?
Should we not examine the impact of mining materials for the battery? The ramification of power generation namely construction of dams, coal burning, nuclear waste, light pollution from solar panels? Not to mention the monopoly power company.
Or the energy needed to build them. If we look at a Prius, it is 113 million BTUs of energy to manufacture a Prius. The consequence is that you have to drive it 100,000 miles before it is less harmful to the environment than a second hand Tercel. Electric vehicles, fuel cells and hydrogen cars are only the tail fins today. Like Flex Fuel, hybrids, SUVs, mini-vans, breaks, and caudal fins model years, they are only designed to try to obsolescence and get people to buy more cars. This economic growth, are not environmentally friendly. As long as our free market economy does not take into account the total cost to society and the ecosystem, and as long as it is possible to mislead, distract and misinform the consumer, we will always consume more, produce more and we will structure our population in unsustainable patterns (too many people in cities dependent vs. factory jobs in the country ...). It is parable of the House of Commons, such behavior will result in a tragic collapse like the one we are experiencing now.
